Josh, born Dec. 18th, 1974
in Riverside, CA, first started playing drums in Lakeland, Florida at age
15. In 1989 he helped create his first band: Badd influence.
In 1996 Josh moved to
Oregon to attend OSU. “That’s where I received my first real dose of Jazz
and to this day, in my opinion, it is still one of the most invigorating,
challenging and rewarding styles of music.” Tired of playing alone he posted
an ad at a local music store, which eventually formed a small funk band
called Tubefinger (accidentally slurred out of his mouth over a bottle of
Twofingers’ Tequila). Tubefinger was a 6 piece band consisting of odd meter
funk rhythms, crisp guitar riffs and stunning tenor sax solos.
Much changed in 1997 when
Josh’s name was passed along to a Romanian bassist in search of a new
drummer for their multi-cultural, up-and-coming rock band. He accepted the
invitation and became the new drummer for Voodoo Tuna (VDT). This eclectic
mix of musicians resulted in a rich sound that was rock ready with just the
right amount of funk to get people grooving. For the next three years VDT
would spend time touring throughout Oregon and Washington. VDT released
their self-titled EP in 1999 that debuted at #9 on the local charts, moving
to #1 in less than 4 weeks.
Josh later found his way
back to Florida and played independently for the next couple years while
completing a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of South Florida. Shortly
after graduating he met guitarist, Craig Sybert. In July of 2003 Craig and
his long time friend, Patrick Williams would hook up with Josh to form
Contrast, which performed in a variety of locations ranging anywhere from
acoustic gigs at coffee houses to opening for national acts like 7 Mary
Three and Non Point.
After the birth of his
second child, daughter Gwendolyn Monet, Josh took the next year off. Not
being able to totally stay away from music Josh, sitting on a pile of unused
drum tracks, joined with his brother Jason to create an entirely digital
concept band called Transtoc (Visit
Myspace Site).
In 2006 and absolutely
itching to play in a band again, Josh hooked up with guitarist Micah
Barrington from Fire Within (Visit
Myspace Site) Fire Within is a new Metal Band in Lakeland, FL currently
working on an EP and playing occasional shows. Returning to the metal
scene, Josh feels like he’s back to his old roots again.
