Rich
Galichon hails from Long Island, NY where he began studying
drums at the Downs School of Music. While studying there, he won four
medals (3 gold and 1 silver) in annual drum set competitions sponsored by
the Long Island Drum Teachers Association. Years later, Galichon expanded
his studies with legendary jazz drummer Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck
Quartet) and classic rock icon Simon Kirke (Free, Bad Company).
"Joe's left hand is amazing. He gave me some great tips. As for
Simon, his drumming in Free and Bad Company made him a
legend. His approach was to 'keep it simple'. In addition to Joe Morello
and Simon Kirke, Rich Galichon garnered nods from Tommy Aldridge, Bill
Bruford, Jonathan Mover, and other contemporary drummers.
Most recently, Rich Galichon focused his attention on recording custom
drum tracks for various artists (including unsigned artists) over the web
as an Internet
Session Drummer. "Collaborating over the net allows me to
reach a wider array of artists than would otherwise be possible. Artists
no longer have to absorb transportation costs, studio fees, or engineering
expenditures. Scheduling conflicts are also a thing of the past. My drum
room is always miked up and ready to go. This way, I can track a
performance and deliver it much faster and much more affordably than by
conventional means."
Rich Galichon's early influences include
several drummers with seemingly polar-opposite styles. Among them, he
sites Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, John Bonham and Neil Peart. "To this
day, these drummers never cease to inspire me with their bodies of work.
Just listen to these masters and you'll hear parts so well-crafted... they
perfectly convey the intended emotion and attitude every time.
Rich Galichon plays Saluda cymbals exclusively, live and in the studio.
"I'm very happy to play Saluda cymbals. The Mist Brilliant cymbals
speak with a bright transient and they finish with a slightly darker
timbre. The Mist X cymbals are crisp and versatile. The Diamond and
Earthworks series have wonderful complexities. All my Saludas are
sonically unique, hand-crafted, and hand-hammered in fine B20 Bronze. They
also look fantastic! That's just a win-win situation in my book and it's
why I signed up to play Saluda cymbals exclusively."
