Hello,

I am new to this site along with the cymbal series. I've been doing some extensive browsing on a lot of these products and I am very interested in getting some cymbals. From what I have heard and seen, I really like the Mist X series and the Earthworks series. I like to play softer tunes like jazz all the way to the extreme side of metal, so darker yet cutting/powerful sounds are what I dig mostly.

If anyone can help guide me through the trade-in process, that would be greatly appreciated. I already tried sending an e-mail to Jamie about five days ago, and another one tonight just as a follow-up.

Items that I am trying to trade in are:

ZBT 18" china
ZBT 13" hi hats
Avedis 16" rock crash
A custom 16" crash (multiple cracks and missing chunks; could use for casting)
12" wuhan splash (multiple chunks missing; could use for casting)
16" Pearl crash/ride
13" (or 14"?) Pearl hi hats
5.5" x 14" Pearl Forum Series snare

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I am sure I can get more items for more products (if possible).

Jamie can customize any cymbal for the sound your'e looking for. The Mist X's or Earthworks would be great for the heavier sounds you want but if you play a lot of softer Jazz type music but still want a rock sound when needed the Diamond cymbals are a great choice. Also the Nemises line has great versitility as well. Give him a call and he'll be glad to help you out. The nice thing about dealing with Saluda cymbals is that when you call up with a question, you're actually talking to the person who's going to be making your cymbal for you.

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely consider it. I've seen some Diamond series Saludas in action on YouTube, and you're right - they sound amazing for jazz and jazz-fusion type of tunes. I've yet to hear any Saluda in person though... which is why I want to try a few out and see if I want to go all the way with this brand.

Well... if he doesn't mind having a person call then I suppose I could do that.

First off, Jamie doesn't cast his own cymbals. If I was you I would hold on to that Avedis crash, you probably wont get much trade in for it, and it could be worth more than you think.

As far as which series to get- If your going Saluda, Diamond is the most versatile for playing from Jazz to Metal.

Well, considering how bad this cymbal looks, I really don't think it'd be worth anything. It could be useful for smelting or cutting it down to its bell, but that's about it hahaha. The chunks that are missing have hairline cracks going towards the bell.

File comment: Here's the A Custom Crash. If you have a better option, then please let me know. As far as I'm concerning, it's going to the melting pot.

I completely misunderstood what you typed. You were referring to the Rock Crash, I assume right? If so - I bought that thing for $80, so if I can get a better cymbal for it -- tit for tat, if possible -- then I will follow through. If not, then I'll just retract that cymbal and just throw in everything else, plus I found other things I could trade in.

I really appreciate the advice though.

I think you'd be happy with the Diamonds and you won't miss the ZBTs at all! If you like the Wuhan splash (I like those myself) I had Jamie make me a twelve inch Diamond based on that sound and it came out great. As far as Saluda not casting their own blanks, I would'nt fret it, Paiste does'nt either and they make great cymbals also.

You won't be dissapointed with the Diamond series. I have 2 rides (20" and 22") at the moment and they both sound great. The 22" can crash really well because it's medium in weight. The 20" one I now own crashes OK, but provides a nice ping sound. You'll like just about everything they offer.

So, it seems like the Diamond series are very popular among Saluda users, eh? I like their sound from what I have browsed. And if possible, I'd like it to sound similar to a Zildjian K 17" Dark-Thin Crash (with more durability, preferably), cause those cymbals sound amazing.

Yeah, I do dig the Wuhan splash because it cuts through with enough brightness and trashiness at the same time.

Just out of curiosity - how much do you think I would be getting for all these items?

Oh, and if it helps out - I am only interested in getting crashes right now because that's what I need the most. I still have a nice 20" A Custom Ping Ride that I have been using for about a few years now and love it.

Email Jamie through the Drum Gear Online link. Be patient, sometimes it takes awhile for him to get back to you. BTW, judging from the looks of that A crash you might want read through the cymbal care thread. Really good info on how to prevent that!

If you trade that A Custom into Jamie, ask him to cut out the bell of it, I'll buy the bell.

I already got a hold of Jamie through e-mail and I requested my trade-in offer including photos. Now it's just a matter of time to hear back what he feels is appropriate to trade =P.

Jason - Do you think the bell will sound good? If you're really inclined to buy it then by all means do it! I don't think I'll have the rights to it once it goes to Jamie though so I think you'll have to negotiate with him on that. I'll definitely mention this request to him though.

Oh, and I usually am pretty good with taking care of my cymbals and playing them correctly. It's just due to constant relocation and slip-ups that occur during then that causes little fractures. My cymbal bag was dropped by one of my band members, and I'm almost certain that gravity made my cymbal its slave, hahaha!

Bummer :( Don't you just hate that because it looks like we're beating up on something that they just assume that our gear does't deserve the same respect as one of their guitars? Next time that happens try dropping one of their amps down a flight of stairs and see how well that goes over! (I mean that figuratively of course)

Hahaha yeah, I know! People who don't play drums just don't understand how fragile every piece is, despite how physically demanding it is to play.

And I don't need to drop one of their amp heads or cabs because my bassist had an accident and dropped his on an incline sidewalk, haha. It was a pretty nasty fall, but there were only minor cosmetic damages... which again infuriated me because the slightest drop of cymbals could obliterate it.

from looking at your list of stuff you want to trade,
IMO I dont think your stuff is really worth the shipping.
I dont see where you would get anything for it.
but thats just my 2 cents. (no pun intended)

I already went through with the trade-in, and I will be receiving:

17" Mist-X Medium Crash
18" Earthworks Hybrid Crash

Hey SeanHammer

I am curious how much value you got for your trade-in collection. I'm working on a trade-in myself, and wondering if it's worth trying to find some of my friend's crappy old cymbals to add. I'm looking at almost that same 17" crash, to go with a 16" and 18" Zildjian A-custom crash.

This was my trade with Jamie
______________
Your Cymbals:

12" cracked Wuhan splash
16" ZBT Crash
18" ZBT China
14" Pearl CX hats

18" Pearl CX Crash Ride
16" Zildjian Avedis Rock Crash
16" Zildjian A Custom Crash
14" Pearl Forum snare
12" Radian XL Splash

+ $14.00 (includes return shipping in the US)

for our cymbals:

18" Earthworks Hybrid Crash

17" Mist-X Medium Crash

__________

My trade in value was I believe $289.00, but I could be wrong. I tried looking for the e-mail with the updated amount but I could not find it. Due to a lot of my equipment being damaged, I think this is quite fair for the trade that was granted.
