I recently received my first Saluda cymbals. I choose the Nemesis line and ordered a 10" Splash and a 16" Thin Crash. I like them very much! I have not had a chance to gig or record with them yet but during the "breaking-in" period their sound is developing very nicely. Consider me a satisfied customer!

Nice. It's always great when you take a little gamble and turn up with something you like.

I can tell you my cymbal produces a very nice tone when struck softly but if you lay into it, it opens up very nicely. This is exactly what I wanted. The gigs we play are all low volume stuff, original tunes considered to be alternative jazz/rock. I know this cymbal would have no problem cutting through anything we would play, or louder than we normally play. I have not had a chance to gig with it yet but I have no doubts it will perform admirably. I do not know a sound to compare it to for you. My best description would be "full" and farily "bright". I hope to have some sound clips before too much longer.

I have Nemesis cymbals for all my current kit. This includes the 16" crash. mine is more a medium weight. It provides excellent bite but also has a great smoothness throughout the crash. Sustains well. I think it's smoother than my old Zild. A's I had previously. I have also the hats, 2 splashes and med ride (20).

My friend and I are getting closer to getting some samples up. He recently got some new mics, now we just have to make time to get the sounds recorded. Video, for us, may take a little longer. I know I keep saying "soon", we're trying ....

I have been drumming for virtually 30years & never heard of a [break in period] for a cymbal. this is a first. so I did a web search on the matter. this is just another marketting stunt. a cymbal may sound a little different as it gets older by 1: you can't hear as well as you used to. 2: it builds up a dirt/tarnish layer in which is so little of a sound difference that it doesn't matter at all. 3: just play it already! I have never cracked a cymbal in my life. what would a break in period process be? its a cymbal already. I know....the process would be uh, playing it? I have never took the time to "break in" a cymbal and have had no bad experiences from it.

OK, calm down. Just going by the info included with the cymbals when they arrived.
I have never broken or cracked a cymbal either. I am very satisfied with the cymbals I have ordered form Saluda, Jamie does a great job.

You havent heard of it because cymbal companies leave their cymbals to sit in a vault for months before they send them out, but because most people dont want to wait that long for their custom cymbals Saluda sends them right to you.

it's the period of time that the cymbals actually settle. after hammering and lathing and cooling things change with the structure of the alloy. thats what the break in proceses is. things really dont change much, but the fact is it can depending on how the cymbal is designed. my custom ride i had made had a funky overtone for a very short period of time, but now is gone.

Both my china and splash cymbals now sound slightly different after settling in. It's the nature of most metals to "relax" some after having been worked. Using something completely different as an example, I know from experience (and an older version of "Machinery's Handbook" will confer this), if you sharpen a High Speed Steel tool cutter and then let it sit for a month or so before putting it into service, it will hold its edge longer before needing to be resharpened. Just an example of how metalurgical structure will change after being worked.

well this is yet to be descerned by my ears when I order my next saludas. I only ordered mini hats so far from saluda & plan to replace my sabian hats & possible a 14" crash.
this settling-in may happen but I am still suspicious that a person would be able to descern this change with the ear.
if so. during the break-in period why would a person do anything to the cymbal but play it?
are you saying that during the break-in period the cymbal should be handled & played in a different way?
well..... I just may stand to be corrected when I recieve my mini hats in the mail & over a day, week, month the sound changes? as for me & my kit, I plan to play my new stuff when it comes in. I'm not gonna let it sit for months first to settle.
